Mountain Transport Institute is North America’s premier truck driving school. All of MTI’s instructors are professional truck drivers who are here to help you become one the best professional truck drivers on the road today. MTI teaches the Earning Your Wheels program, the best Class 1 training program in North America.

MTI’s President, Andy Roberts, spent 18 years as a professional driver and owner/operator in the mountains of southern British Columbia. Andy saw the need for better training than the industry was providing. He established MTI to provide that improved training and he and the staff of MTI are continually upgrading their courses to provide THE BEST Professional Driver Training in North America.

MTI's courses are designed to teach you how to be a safe, knowledgeable professional truck driver. The courses cover all of the aspects of trucking to provide you with the knowledge you need to safely and economically operate a fully-loaded rig. Our courses are not designed to be the cheapest or fastest way to get a Class 1 licence. MTI's courses are about becoming a professional driver with a good job with the company of your choice. That goal takes a bit longer and costs a bit more to achieve but the satisfaction of a good education and a good job will be ample reward for the extra time and cost.

Instructors

MTI's instructors are the best in the industry. All have at least 10 years full-time experience as professional truck drivers before becoming MTI instructors. All are certified by the I.C.B.C. and the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council (CTHRC) and have taken an MTI designed and approved training course. Location

Location, location, location - Castlegar sits on Highway 3 in the heart of the Kootenay region of BC’s interior Selkirk Mountains. This location ensures that drivers learn and practice how to safely navigate and manage heavily loaded trucks up and down the toughest, longest, steepest mountain grades. Employers of MTI’s grads love the fact that our students are trained in safe operating procedures for mountain driving; that's one of the reasons our grads are in such high demand.

The only transmission training simulator in western Canada

MTI uses a TranSim™ transmission simulator to teach proper shifting techniques. The simulator allows students to perfect their shifting skills without having to worry about traffic and other distractions. See our transmission simulator page for more information.
