Toronto: Drivers busted doing 200 km/h in a 50 zone

Two drivers were clocked doing 200 km/h in a 50 zone on Martingrove Road, police say.

A Toronto police officer spotted the two cars at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday on Martingrove near Steeles Avenue.

Both drivers, 20 and 21, were charged with racing and had seven-day licence suspensions along with having their rides impounded for a week.
Police noted driving 200 km/h equals a rate of travel of 55.6 meters per second. That means under ideal conditions, with full braking, it would take a car 210 meters to stop — that’s equal to more than two football fields.
