Ministry of Transportation probes driving school allegations

Critics are calling on the transportation ministry to regulate driving schools that regularly take their students from Toronto to remote towns such as Bancroft to take their road tests there.

Transportation Minister Kathleen Wynne said that the ministry is currently reviewing concerns over discrepancies in the pass/fail rates at the province’s 55 DriveTest centres and will then forward its findings to her.

Wynne also mentioned that her ministry is looking into allegations that driving schools are coaching students on small-town test routes used by DriveTest examiners and indicated that more serious measures may be needed to preserve the integrity of those routes.

“Are the test routes being used appropriately? That’s one of the questions that we have to answer,” Wynne noticed.
